![]() ![]() I've been saying that from the beginning. It was to make the sheep think they're not so bad, and reduce the amount of resistance to the mandate. They're only allowing loose parameters to be set for the time being in order to lure the sheep over to e-logs with a false sense of security. I've been saying that for several years now. What's important is not laying down and letting the option of personal conveyance be taken away from you, or restricted.Ĭlick to expand. What Mike said is within two years that's going to change, and it won't be possible to move the truck at all any more. You may want to argue that this is work related, and I will disagree, but in the context of this discussion, it's not important. Want to get your truck washed early in the morning at the truck wash across the street from where you are parked before you start your day? You better hope that the personal conveyance allowance stands for this, otherwise, you are about to start your clock earlier than you planned. Pulled into the fuel island, and I was on the driving line, and my 10 hour break got interrupted. I was moving slowly to the fuel island, which I have done so many times in the past, expecting to go on duty and fuel all at the same time. Actually had this come into play on my in Kansas a few days ago. Staying under 5mph, not easy, at least for me. Get over 5mph on the way to the fuel island, and your driving time has started (unless you went on duty and selected "yard move"). You will soon learn that simple things like moving from your parking spot to the fuel island at the truck stop has now changed. You can no longer just do whatever you want, and unless you push to keep personal conveyance as unrestricted as possible, expect to see you hours get chewed up much quicker than expected. Odometer readings are stored for every move you make. A disconnection is immediately flagged on your log as "interrupted". If you are used to paper logs, you will find out quickly how important the ability to use personal conveyance is, no more simply running around town and not worrying about it. With an AOBRD, you already know the importance of this to an extent. It is important that drivers push to keep their ability to use personal conveyance for truly personal vehicle movement. ![]() if audited, it will be extremely easy to see personal conveyance time, and your paperwork/receipts better not show that you were doing any work related moves. Company drivers, and fleets, if this is allowed, expect it to be monitored closely because your company cannot hide this stuff if audited. The movement is still tracked 100%, but shown as off duty, and noted on your log. Personal Conveyance: While off duty, you can select "personal conveyance". It will be noticed on your log, along with locations, so expect to get found out if you try to abuse this and get inspected. Make no mistake, though, it is still tracked. This allows the vehicle movement to be tracked as a yard move. Yard move: when moving to "on duty", you can select "yard move". To account for this, you have a couple options. On Omnitracs (qualcomm), this has always been easy enough to get around in the past when moving short distances (from the dock to the security gate, etc.). You will be on the driving line by the time you get out of your parking spot, and no way to get around it. Doesn't matter if you only moved 10 feet, you are not showing to be driving. at 5mph, you are automatically moved to the driving line. Here is what I have quickly become accustomed to with the keeptruckin ELD.Īll of the adjustable parameters are no longer there. As you migrate to a true ELD over the next two years, this will tighten up on you in a big way. Things such as distance traveled before actually showing you driving. Parameters: With the AOBRD, your safety department, or whoever is in charge, is able to set some parameters which dictate vehicle movement. ![]() Those of you on an AOBRD (most large fleets) will realize these restrictions within the next two years. If you are hooking up a true ELD for the first time, or about to, you will notice the tight restrictions, and accountability for everything. It is to discuss the restrictions (which are tighter than most are used to) and the need to fight for personal conveyance. First off, this is not another thread to complain about the ELD. ![]()
